There’s no wrong way to do Mahuru Māori, as long as you are making the effort to use more of the reo! Check out some ideas of what you can do for your Mahuru Challenge below.
Challenges by Level
This introductory challenge is simply to greet and farewell people in Māori everyday of Mahuru. Convert your ‘Hello’ to a ‘Kia Ora’, it’s that easy.
This challenge is simple – Greet & farewell people in te reo Māori and use what you know to speak/write up to 1 hour per day for the whole month. Every minute adds up, you’ll be surprised how easy it is.
This challenge will use and grow what you know. Speak/write in Māori for an hour or more per day (aim for 2 hours). Encourage your family, friends and colleagues to join the challenge. It’s easier with people!
This intermediate challenge is to speak/write in te reo Māori for at least half the day, everyday regardless of where you are or whom you are with.
The advanced challenge where you aim to speak te reo Māori for the length of Mahuru irrespective of where you are and whom you are with.
In the Workplace
Get your hoa mahi (coworkers) on the waka with the Mahuru Challenge. By using even a little te reo Māori at work, you’ll gain confidence and encourage others to give it a go as well.
At School
Schools are a great environment to share and learn more te reo Māori. Whether you share your challenge with staff or students, there are plenty of ways to get everyone involved with the Mahuru Challenge.
